This week went well. I worked on updating and posting new information on Jocues.com's web site. He needed some pictures to be added and some deleted. I also created a new picture gallery for the web site.

We also had a new client come in. They are a owner of a store that sells all types of accessories. They would like a on-line store to sell their products. This client has little knowledge of how a web site operates. We spent about two hours explaining the options the client may have.

April 4, 2009

This week went well. I worked on Jocues.com's web site. They wanted to update about 6 pictures on their site. I used fireworks to re-touch them and dreamweaver to up-load them. I also created a few html pages that link to the photo gallery. The main web site is created in flash and it links to a photo gallery that is created in php, javascript and html.

During the week I also attended the Houston Art Institute's Portfolio show. It showed cased the graduates work. I found that most of the work they are doing is similar to that of Houston Community College.

I also attended a presentation given by the AIGA of Houston. The speaker was Michael Patrick Cronan of San Francisco. He has been in the Graphic Design industry of 35 years and has won many awards. I found his presentation very interesting and helpful.

Internship Progress

This week went very well. It started off with our meeting on Monday morning to discuss the weekly assignments that needed to be accomplished by Friday.
Our first goal was to finish anything that was not accomplished from last week.

My first task was to start creating a logo in Flash. This was requested from our client Kwik Kill. The flash logo would work as a banner that one would click on and once clicked, it would take you to the sign up page for registration.

Another assignment during the week was to work in Illustrator to design a logo for a client named Yateen America. I designed several logos but only picked out four examples to send for approval. I will be hearing back from the client on Monday.

So far during my internship the web design applications that I have worked with are; Flash, Photoshop. Illustrator, Fireworks and Dreamweaver.

This week we accomplished a lot. We set up a schedule on Monday of all the daily tasks that needed to be accomplished by Friday. They include the following:

1. Setting up a final payment for various clients for their web site and monthly maintenance fees.
2. Fixed bugs and links on various client web sites.
3. Created banners and sent them to client for approval.
4. Sent proposals for a new web site to several potential clients.
5. Did a hosting-switch. Switched client hosting from a window environment to a Linux environment.
6. Uploaded several files to web sites for updates.

It was a busy week but, learned a lot. Look forward to next week.

It was a great week! Why? Because I finally started working for the Graphic Shop.
Monday Feb 16, 2009 was my first day and let me tell you, it isn’t easy waking up early! I started early morning at 9:00 am and quickly got to know the office environment. Mr. Alexander (my sponsor) was excited to show me around the office which was a pleasant experience.

After the tour Mr. Alexander explain the type of work an schedule I would have. Every Monday morning we would be have a company meeting and talk about what we would be working on, our goals for the week, and up-coming events. Also, Mr. Alexander gave me an outline of all the clients and type of service that his Graphic Shop provides.

After the meeting I was given the projects that I would be working on for the remainder of the week.

1. Update three Graphic Shop homepage banners in fireworks or Photoshop .
2. Update Client Web site: Jocues (www.jocues.com)
A. update stock gallery
B. upload new html pages.
3. Update online coupons for Kwik Kill Exterminator (http://www.kwikkillexterminators.com/) in fireworks or photoshop.

Also during the week we took care of some of the internal housekeeping such as:
My user name and password to the online graphic shop web site.

I did about 25 hrs this week which is great!
